The ride is fully supported and designed to allow riders of all degrees of experience to participate. This is a ride not a race. Each participant pays an $85 registration fee and riders commit to raise a minimum of $1,250 in donations. Although that amount to fund raise may seem daunting, we are continually amazed by what we see participants accomplish. The average rider raises over $1,800.

100% of pledges raised by participants are guaranteed to go to direct services and participants maintain a degree of control over the distribution of 50% of their pledges to the benefiting agencies.

Our participants come from across the State of Florida from as far south as Key West, as far North as Jacksonville, from Tampa to Palm Beach. Nationally from as far as Hawaii to as close as our neighboring state of Georgia, not to mention Internationally. We attract between 400-500 participants with each event, but we touch thousands more on the road as we travel between cities and towns, and with each donation that is made. Last year, close to 10,000 people donated to our efforts – that’s quite an impact!

Riders and crew range in age from 18 to 73. They are involved because:

  • Some are Positive
  • Some have lost someone to HIV/AIDS
  • Some know someone living with HIV/AIDS
  • Everybody believes it is the right thing to do!

Our sponsors are Independent/Family Owned Businesses, Regional and National Companies. All believe that being involved is a life changing experience and want an opportunity to give back to the community. Sponsors donate cash, products, service and also put together riding teams. Thanks to them, we are able to produce a safe event and donate 100% of the pledges raised back to the community.

So whether you ride, crew, sponsor or donate, it takes all of us to make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Remember the famous quote by anthropologist Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

So come join us on our 165 mile journey from Miami to Key West. It is a 2 day experience you will never forget!

Wish them all the best and a HUGE thanks for the riders and everyone else that made this happen!

The Sexiest Men in the Alps Calendar

The Sexiest Men in the Alps 2013  Calendar has just came out. By the looks of it these guys would be great do lay next with and a fireplace going…

Going Public with Being Positive:Changing the Stigma

Going public with his HIV status has reaped many rewards for former Olympian Ji Wallace, writes Rachel Cook.

Earlier this year Olympic champion Ji Wallace was watching CNN and he saw Piers Morgan interviewing fellow Olympian Greg Louganis. Louganis had come out as being HIV positive. Sometime later Wallace read about high profile journalist Anderson Cooper coming out as gay. Cooper said that what prompted him to go public about his sexuality was the wave of suicides that had occurred. Cooper realised the impact his disclosure might have on young queer kids.

Not long after these incidents Wallace realised he too had a role to play, and so in August this year he came out as being HIV-positive. Three months later sees him as newly appointed ambassador to People Living with HIV/AIDS Victoria’s (PLWHA) Enuf campaign, designed to combat stigma around HIV.

“I was so impressed with Piers and his approach to that interview with Greg because it was really about Greg the person. I thought if he could do that then why can’t everybody else. On top of that I read about Anderson Cooper who came out as gay because he felt it was time to reveal his homosexuality to the world and to let everyone know that there is value in having a voice and being heard.  I took all of that onboard.”

In September 2011, Wallace was alone and in Montreal and he had just been diagnosed as HIV Positive. And though he knew with drugs the virus can be managed, he was also aware of the impact it could have on life in regards to how people treated him.

“It was difficult. It felt like a bomb had gone off inside my head. I was overseas and by myself. I called my best mate in London and he came to Montreal to see me.

“I wasn’t concerned about dying but I was worried that I would be treated differently and how it would affect my future. And there’s a regime you must abide by for the rest of your life. You have to take precautions and it does change your life. Also I couldn’t tell my parents because I was overseas and I really felt the need to tell them face to face. It was hard talking to them on the phone as I had this huge piece of information I had to give them and I couldn’t.”

Back in Australia Wallace had the arduous task of telling his parents whose associations with HIV were the horrifying 80’s ad campaign the Grim Reaper. While Wallace lives in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Sydney where attitudes towards HIV/AIDS have shifted due to progressive education campaigns aimed at the gay community, for people of Wallace’s parent’s generation his diagnosis was still seen as a death sentence.

“In other parts of Australia or the world, people are still scared,” Wallace says, “People still equate it with the Grim Reaper and the media hasn’t really followed all of the advances.”

Wallace invited his parents to come along with him to the doctor so that they could see he wasn’t ‘sugar-coating’ the information. His parents asked their own questions and Wallace said he could see the “worry and the fear actually drain out of their bodies.”

“It was a great idea to take them and it was the first time my parents had come together in ten years,” Wallace says.

“I also got some great advice from my father. He said stop worrying about falling in love or meeting someone, just get yourself happy and get yourself back on track and don’t worry about a man.”

Then in a scene out of a Hollywood film Wallace dropped his parents at the airport and feeling buoyed by his dad’s wise words headed down to the beach for a swim, and within minutes met his current boyfriend, Shaun.

“I went down to the beach and this guy came over and said, ‘hi I met you about eight years ago at a party and I’ve always wondered what you’ve been up to’ – it was absolutely electric,” Wallace says.

“We chatted for two hours and it felt like five minutes and then he dropped me at the gym and I thought my god I have to see this guy again and at the same time he texted me and said do you want to have dinner. It was at that point that I thought I have to tell him about being HIV positive right now.

“He came back to the gym and picked me up and I actually got into the car but left my bag outside and one foot outside, I was ready for his reaction to be no. However, he said, get in the car and don’t worry about that, we’ll deal with that, I want to get to know you.

“I thought I can’t not invest time in someone who says that, and we’ve been together ever since. He’s a backbone that allows me to go forward.”

Going forward for Wallace since disclosing his HIV status has been becoming an ambassador for People Living with HIV AIDS Victoria’s ENUF campaign.  The campaign is aimed at dispelling HIV stigma and discrimination.

“Some people are very alone and I’ve had people write to me now and say that I am the first person who they have even told they are gay let alone HIV positive,” Wallace says.

“I’m such a small part of this, but some of the responses I’ve been getting have said things like, I was going to commit suicide, but I listened to your story and I haven’t.”

Wallace has made himself available to people via Facebook and Twitter and endeavours to respond to everyone who contacts him. He is also in the process of creating the Silver Lining Foundation, a foundation that will not only address the issues surrounding HIV but also cater to those in need.

“It will be HIV focussed but it’s not going to be just about HIV, there are opportunities to help gay kids in sport. It would be great to maybe help a kid get to the Olympics, who knows.”

Due to a major fall while Wallace was performing with Cirque Du Soleil, he won’t compete in trampolining again, but he still follows the sport and still has ‘big dreams’.

“There’s a lot I want to do and my mum inspires me a lot with her willingness to give without getting back. So the way I see the world is, the sun comes up and the sun goes down, and what you do in between is up to you. That’s the way I want to live my life.”

Honey Boo Boo’s Proud Gay Red Neck Uncle

The TLC show, ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,’ is now helping gay rednecks show their pride

Little did Lee Thompson know that when he moved back to his hometown of Milledgeville, Ga., he’d become a household celebrity due to his lil’ neice. Since that gal is known to millions as Honey Boo Boo (aka Alana Thompson), the star of TLC’s breakout hit, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and Lee Thompson is now best known as “Sugarbear,” Alana Thompson’s “Uncle Poodle,” his life in middle Georgia hasn’t been the same (he even gets people stopping him in Wal-Mart asking for pictures and autographs). Thompson, who says he married his husband in Georgia this past August, recently spoke with GA Voice and explained why he’s a proud gay redneck:

“Things are changing. My husband and I live in Milledgeville because we want to be out in the country. I’m gay, but I’m as redneck as I can get, and we want to be somewhere we can fish and jump on a four-wheeler, go hog wallowing. There’s probably 40 or 50 of us — gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered people — around here, they’re all open about it, everybody knows it,” he says.

“It’s not like there’s a gay bar here. We go to the same bars as everybody else, we’re all part of the same community… If there’s people who have a problem with it, they keep it to themselves, just like if I have a problem with them, I keep it to myself.”

I graduated from high school in south Georgia (Lowndes County to be exact), and I have to say, it was nothing like this. Yes, the one gay bar growing up was next to the truck stop, so you’d get a mix of drag queens, trucker trolls, and military dudes. But now that we have images of trans security guards in north Georgia, and gay guys who fish and go “hog wallowing,” things will never be the same. Even if they’re called poodles. Hooray for redneck progress!

Why Does Teabagging Get a Bad Rap?

So why does Tea-bagging” get such a bad rap? No were not talking about those silly far right nut jobs that are about eliminating all form of government.

Were talking about a man dropping his nuts, sack and personal business across your face and mouth. Oh, come on don’t be a prude – you know you like it.

Yes a hot man can lay it on me anytime because it’s so much fun (well before you are so quick to judge think of the alternative: a woman’s vagina?  I’ll take a sack a nuts any day of the week).

Cheers and here’s to all of you man enough to admit you want a hot sack across the face!

Halloween Count Down: 36 Days!

Well the month of September is just about over and that only means Halloween will be here in a matter of no time.

Yes the fall season and the slightly cooling of the hot Florida weather will be a welcome change. Living in an area with so much to do for Halloween from Wicked Manors to South Beach or Fantasy Fest in Key West! Don’t forget about Orlando and Horror Nights or the notorious Belle Meade neighborhood party as well.

So have you decided yet what your going to wear and where your going to go? There will be no shortage of activities and really no bad choice, maybe just the headache of parking.  We will have upcoming features and try and map out all the festivities for you.

White Party Weekend: Is the Circuit Party ” so Passe?

Well South Florida residents if you still want to buy your “special rate” of $149.00 for the White Party you have till tomorrow. Now an event that no longer is at Viscaya and one that have some people asking: Is this event “so passe” and well past it’s prime.

Yes were sure there will be the influx of tourist and even some locals (which seems to be a dwindling number with each year) that still goes to the White Party. It appears that some of us are older (does that mean wiser?) others just never bought into the idea of being charged 10 times the normal fee just to dance (or attempt to depending on the size of the crowd).

The White Parties main goal of course is to raise money for a good cause (HIV/AIDS) – remember that virus? Were not trying to be funny with that statement it just seems that with the advancement in meds and quality of life some of us have sadly forgot this is still a problem no matter how you look at it. What we would like to say is that we need to remember that in this day and age we should not forget about the downside of HIV/AIDS nor should we only raise money for it only by a circuit party.

We are lucky to see the advancements in meds and over all quality of life. However these meds are outrageously priced and nearly impossible to get without good insurance or places like Care Resource to offer help.

It’s most likely a good guess that yes you still can go and have a good time and not worry or care if it’s “passe” just remember that if you don’t go you can still help out or donate in other ways for a disease that is still around and YES still a problem.

HIV Test …There’s an App for That?

A team of scientists from South Africa and South Korea are developing a phone app that can photograph and analyze blood samples and measure white blood cells to diagnose HIV, AFP reports.

“Our idea was to obtain images and analyse images on this smartphone using applications,” Korean biomedical engineer Jung Kyung Kim said.

Called Smartscope, the test uses a one-millimeter microscope attachment that clips onto a smartphone camera.

It’s hoped the test could be used from next year in South Africa, where nearly six million people are HIV positive, and Swaziland, where a quarter of the adult population carries the virus.

Smartscope is being developed for diagnosis and treatment in rural areas, where technology is limited, rather than in developed areas.

Remember When? Lucky the Diet Coke Guy

The year was 1996 and the product was Diet Coke. Remember “Lucky” the Diet Coke guy? Yes the woman working in the office above made it a point to catch his beverage break.

This is advertising and marketing that proves ”sex appeal sells” well at least made you thirsty for something…not sure if  Diet Coke was what you were craving.

Canada’s Under Rated Gay Cities

Last month we had a list of the USA’s under rated gay cities. Yes were in a country that sometimes does not look beyond the “Gay Mecca’s” of New York, LA and San Francisco or South Florida.

To some extent our friendly northern neighbor does the very same with Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver being the big gay detestation’s there. Well with this list we thought to look beyond those three cities and try to expand and think outside of the box so to say.

So here they are ( and some listed will have only several gay bars…like we said try and think outside of the box and not by having 20 or 30 gay bars).

#1-Calgary, Alberta- Yes cowboys, high tech and yuppies can all live and thrive together. And boy do they thrive and wow has Calgary grown, and grown and grown it’s now well over 1 million and counting. This city has skyscraper after skyscraper go up one after another along with new residents that keep moving there (and yes gays make up a nice percent of these new residents). It pretty much has something for everyone and the amazing Rocky Mountains a close drive by.

#2-Quebec City, Quebec- Well being located fairly close to both Montreal and Toronto can’t be easy. However this is one city with loads of charm and even feels more European than Montreal. So if you want some “old world charm” and a friendly population and history this city shouldn’t be missed.

#3-Victoria, British Columbia-If your smart and take a couple days from your week or so vacation to Vancouver and also see Victoria you will not be disappointed. This city has breath taking views and a cute, busy and active downtown filled with shops and places to eat.

#4-Edmonton, Alberta- Yes we know you most likely have heard of the West Edmonton Mall and sure it’s worth seeing but there’s so much more to see. This capital city has some amazing museums and much like most of the bigger Canadian cities it too has a nice, clean and active downtown. Like it’s neighbor to the south Calgary the mountains are not far at all and should also be seen.

#5-Ottawa, Ontario- This is the Canada’s Capital city and of course there’s plenty of museums and buildings. Much like Quebec City, Ottawa lies very close to the two powerhouse cities of Montreal and Toronto and even with being the capital city and is over shadowed by both. It lies on the Ottawa river and is a city of many surprises. There’s the Alexandra bridge, National Gallery of Canada, Parliament Hill and much more plus a diverse population.

#6-Halifax,Nova Scotia- A coastal city rich in history and charm Halifax is city that is well worth a look. This city has played a more active war when Canada has been at war than most cities. The Welsford-Parker Monument is the oldest monument in Canada and dating back to 1860 is just one of many monuments in Halifax. The Spring Garden district is nice for shopping and dining. The arts seen is also alive and well and very under rated here.

Oh and did we mention the men of Canada tend to be handsome, fun and rugged??? Other honorable mentions: Saskatoon & Regina, Saskatchewan.
